Overview
In a near future the family planning clinic Family First can predict virtually anything about a child’s future – not just about the health, but about the personality, academic accomplishments, social factors and whether it will get into any serious trouble. This makes parents far more capable of finding their «perfect» child. What the customers don’t know is that the clinic hires agents to follow the children after they’ve been born, for a certain number of years. While the agent sends reports of information back in time through the mysterious Machine. Information that the clinic receives, and which they provide the parents with before the child is born. Nathaniel is one such child – he notices a man following his every move, but he can’t figure out why. He decides to tell his two best friends, Nona and Daniel, about the secret – so that they can help him solve the mystery. Meanwhile the father starts to see glimpses of a child, Ada, who was never born in this timeline, who he and his wife “terminated” after having visited the clinic – which makes the father question everything, including what kind of organization Family First really is. This, however, is something Family First wants to keep secret by all means, as they want to keep their goal of designing the most perfect future, in the shadows.
Nathaniel is about to embark on a dangerous and paradoxical journey – the more he finds out about himself and the truth, the more he puts his own existence in jeopardy.
