Overview
Set in the 1980s – Participant is a short film by director, Johan Nayar. Trying to keep up with his party-boy best friend Bazz (Hadi Hillawi), Zain (Bader Kabbani) struggles with the cost of life in London. He sees Bazz with Maria (Corinne Swallow) and realises that he can’t wait until his father sends next months pocket money and so he visits Dr Rosenbaum (Anthony Sergeant) who offers him £1000 to be a part of an experiment.
On his journey he encounters Dr O’Brien (Ben Porter), Luca (Christophe Monplaisir) and Nurse Annie (Amy Foster). All beautifully filmed by Elliot Kennedy, edited by Johan Nayar, scored by Johan Nayar and Thomas Fenton (The Numinous) and Sound Design by Robert Pepper and Johan Nayar.
The film is inspired by the Rosehan Experiments where individuals were able to admit themselves into psych wards.
